ABOUT MERCHANT NAVY
The merchant navy is considered the backbone of international trade. Unlike the Indian navy, it is purely commercial and includes the transportation of goods.
It is the best field for those who want to big earning and traveling through the ocean to the world for free. Sailers get tax-free salaries if they spend 183 days in international water, else the salary is taxable as per the law of the Indian government.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR MERCHANT NAVY COURSES
Medical Fitness => Should be physically fit for sea and should be certified by medical standards laid by DGS approved authority.
Eyesight and hearing => Normally vision 6/6. Color blindness is not permitted.
Good in hearing.
Minimum hight & weight => 157 I'm and 48 kg
Note:- Before admission, you must have a passport or apply for a passport.
(1) Eligibility for GP Rating or STCW Courses
AGE LIMITS: 18 - 25 years
QUALIFICATION: minimum 10th pass with at list 40% marks. 45% marks in English either 10th or 12th exams.
(2) Eligibility for Diploma Courses
Common criteria for different types of diploma courses, check below:-
(A) Age between 25 - 28.
(B) For one-year diploma courses, passed 10+2 with PCM. English subject is compulsory.
(C) For 2 years in diploma courses, you have to pass a diploma in electrical engineering/ electronics engineering/ mechanical engineering/ marine engineering or shipbuilding engineering.
(3) Bachelor Courses Eligibility
(A) Age 17 and a half to 25 years
(B) Candidates must have passed out 10+2 with science stream (PCM) with 60% marks.
(4) Post Graduate Courses Eligibility
(A) For GME, candidates must have a degree in Naval Architecture or mechanical engineering.
(B) For MBA courses, candidates have a bachelor's degree.
(C) For MBA candidates age limit is 25 years and for GME candidates age limit is 28 years.
MERCHANT NAVY ADMISSION PROCESS
There are three ways to enter in the merchant navy courses. But mostly based on entrance exams. Details below:-
1. Entrance through exams and merit:- If you applying for technical courses, you will have to appear for entrance exams. Entrance exams for marine engineering programs after 10+2.Following are some popular exams:-
1, IMU CET
2, JEE Advanced
3, MERI Entrance exam
4, TMI SAT
2. Sponsorship Based Entry
Many maritime companies (like fleet management, Angelo eastern, MSC, BSM, Torm, and many others) give sponsorship to new candidates. You can apply for sponsorship at the institute started by the shipping companies. After the interview and entrance exams, you will be selected for that particular course.
3. Lateral Entry Into 2nd Year Marine Engineering
Direct admission can also be taken into the 2nd year marine engineering courses. There are two ways for getting LE seats:-
(A) After completing the 1st year of electrical or mechanical engineering with 60% marks.
(B) Pursuing a diploma in mechanical/ electrical marine or shipbuilding engineering with minimum 60% marks.
4. Direct Admission Without Entrance Exams
There are so many colleges that take students without any entrance exams on the basis of available seats. Mostly for GP Rating, STCW, HND, etc.
